A fine cane with issues
I got this cane for my mother and we both really liked it but it came with a long crack on the bottom end and the metal cap was not attached. Fashionable Canes sent us a new one, this time the wood was intact but again the metal thingy was not attached. Looking at it I realize that all it was is a cheap version of 1920s flyrod butt caps ( i’ve included four photos the first photo is the broken stick, the second photo is a flyrod butt cap from the 1920s, the third photo is the broken end piece from the second cane, and the last photo shows how they used to be attached, with a small pin which was clearly far superior than what Comoys does today)
Comoys always used to have a terrific reputation for quality but like everything English it’s become a sad parody of itself in recent years. I keep waiting for the day that I hear England is now being run by the Disney corporation. But I digress. The handle of the cane is comfortable, it’s the right height for her to use as almost a thumb stick. She likes it very much because it doesn’t look like an “orthopedic cane”. However if you get one realize that Comoys is not putting the quality effort into it that they should and you may need to re-glue the metal brass ring at the top, and you may need to re-glue the metal cap on the tip. For that I used cyanoacrylate and a hardener. Before putting on a new rubber cap I wrapped the tip that was cracked with silk thread coated with cyanoacrylate.
