This is definitely made for a man. The knob on top is too large for my hand, so I can't use it like a cane; would be forced to use it as a staff. It seems to be sturdy, but I was primarily looking for something to assist me on France's cobblestones (for stability), and it is too heavy to pack (1.5 lbs). So--it's nice for a strong man planning to hike; not so good for a female (smallish) to pack for a trip in Europe. It doesn't telescope enough for me either. I found one elsewhere that is lightweight and only cost $12, which suits my purposes. Nothing wrong at all with this product--it's high quality--just be sure the right person uses it.
