Quick Sizing Guide

If this cane offers free sizing (look for the checkbox under "Add to Cart"), it's optional: choose your height, or skip it and your cane ships at its standard length.

Not sure? Order the standard length. Most canes can be shortened at home once you know the right size.

Cut canes can be exchanged, with a $15 restocking fee.

Adjustable canes set to your height, and fixed-length canes (like sword canes) can't be cut. Their fit is listed under Product Details.

3 ways to find your cane length
1. Measure the cane user (most accurate) Tap to open
Measuring from the wrist crease to the floor

In walking shoes, stand upright with arms relaxed at your sides, and measure from the wrist crease to the floor. A second person reading the tape gives the best result.

If your measurement is exactly a whole or half inch (like 34" or 34½"), order that size. If it's in between (like 34¼"), round up to the next half inch (34½").

2. Measure a cane that already fits Tap to open

Measure from the lowest point on top of the handle to the bottom of the tip. Use your exact measurement if it's a whole or half inch. Otherwise, round up to the next half inch.

3. Estimate from your height Tap to open

Your cane length is about half your height. Example: 5'6" is 66 inches, so 33". It works for most people but isn't exact, so measure when your cane arrives.

Shortening it yourself

Most canes can be shortened at home. Remove the tip, cut the extra length off the bottom, and put the tip back on. Canes can be shortened but not lengthened. Don't cut umbrella, sword, or seat canes, or any cane marked not to be sized.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction. One of the benefits of this design is an increase in comfort due to natural movement in the plywood back.

    Great addition to hiking staff

I have a BSA hiking staff that was just rounded off wood at the bottom. I filed it down to fit one of these tips, drilled a pilot hole (the screw that comes with it is very long and I would worry about splitting) and added a big dollop of epoxy when I installed it and it's now absolutely rock solid and the epoxy keeps water from getting in under the rim of the tip. This was a great addition to my hiking staff.

Difficult to find out these small things. I need this for repairing my stick.

    Handmade staff requires hand-fitting

I purchased this tip for my Boy Scouts of America hiking staff. Of course I had to custom fit this, I can't imagine not having to do so. I had to remove the metal cover that came with it (Dremel tool with cut-off wheel did the trick although a hacksaw would have worked too) and then I sanded the tip into shape to fit the cup of the tip so it would sit properly. I then drilled a pilot hole for the screw to avoid splitting (a necessary step in so many wood projects!). I then epoxied and screwed it into place. It looks good and with that installation should last the lifetime of the staff. If I had to give one criticism it would be that I wish the rubber tip would be a bit larger diameter. Otherwise, this is a great customization for a hiking staff. I can appreciate that not everyone will have power tools at their disposal, but if you're starting with a bare wood tip all you really need is some fairly low grit sandpaper and a drill with a bit slightly smaller than the shaft of the screw.
