Learn How to Measure Your Head and Determine Your Hat Size
So you have found the perfect hat, but will it fit like a glove or slip off with the wind? Fashionable Hats wants to make sure that your hats always look sophisticated and well-fitted to your head shape.
This guide helps you determine the right hat size so that you always look stylish. Our custom measuring tool allows you to find the right circumference and size with ease.
Option 1:
How to Measure Your Head and Hat Size Using String and Measuring Tape
This is the traditional way that you can use at home to find your hat size, but it's much easier to use the head measuring device because it already has the inches printed on the tape measure.
What You'll Need Without Tool
- String or ribbon
- Ruler
- Hat sizing chart
- Pen or marker
Step 1: Use a Piece of String to Measure Your Head
With the piece of string in your hands, wrap it around the back of your head just slightly above your ears or about 1/8 of an inch higher than your ear tip.
Pull the string around to meet at the center of your forehead just above your eyebrows. If you like your hat to sit a bit higher, you can pull the string around your head exactly match how your hat rests on your head.
It's important that you don't pull the string too tight. Rather, the string should fit comfortably around your forehead so that it isn't too tight or loose. This should feel exactly the way you want your hat to feel as it rests on your head.
You can mark the distance where the string meets with a pen or marker.
Step 2: Measure the String with a Ruler
Once you have marked the point of circumference on the string, you can lay it flat and place a ruler underneath to find the circumference in inches. You will likely have to measure the size to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.
Step 3: Match the Circumference to the Hat Sizing Chart
Once you have used the string or head measuring device to find your circumference, you'll have the exact measurements needed to use with the hat sizing chart. For example, if you found that your head measures 22 inches overall, then you would pick a hat size of medium or fitted size of 7 to 7 1/8" circumference.
You can use our convenient hat size chart below to see what your hat size will be. These sizes range from S or 21 1/4" to XXL or 25" in circumference.
Option 2:
Custom Hat Sizing Tool
Fashionable Hats offers a head measuring device and hat sizing tool that helps you find the exact size for your hat. While hat sizes vary by designer, brand, and gender, this tool allows you to always know what size you are. The Fashionable Hats head measuring device uses a custom tape measure to easily find the circumference. The tool costs $5, but we include a $5 gift card so that you can instantly use it towards a high-quality hat on our site.
Things to Keep in Mind
Hat sizing is really based on your comfort level as well. If you prefer that a hat fits snugly for certain designs or you want a cap that fits slightly loose, you should account for that in your sizing. Your comfort matters most of all when picking the true hat size.
In addition, there are other factors to consider, such as your hairstyle. A hat that is too tight can make your hair stick out in odd ways. Materials and brands can also fit differently. For example, leather and corduroy may not fit the same hat size.
We take immense pride in our craftsmanship and customer service. For this reason, Fashionable Hats has a "No Hassle" return policy. If you find that your hat doesn't meet your expectations, we will gladly provide a refund within 30 days of purchase. While we make every effort to ensure that your hat fits comfortably, we recognize that you may want to try something different or it could be the wrong fit due to material.

Women's Hat Sizes
Most women's hat sizes are one size only, but that's not the case with Fashionable Hats. Female head sizes range from 21 inches to 23 inches in circumference. Actual sizes also range depending on the designer. For example, some hats are made for youth sizes, and others come with adjustable bands to keep the hat in place. Whether you are looking for a wide brim hat, fedora, or baseball cap, you can measure your custom head size with Fashionable Hats that you can use to shop for all types of hats in the future.
Men's Hat Sizes
When you shop for hats for men, you will typically find them listed as one size only. Sunday hats, fedoras, caps, and others fall between 21 and 24 inches for men. It can be difficult to find the right hat for a larger head size, which is why custom sizing matters. Carefully measuring your head is much better than using a hat sizing chart, however you can use both methods to determine your size.
Enhance Your Style with the Perfect Fitting Hat
As sophisticated as your tastes are, Fashionable Hats strives to meet and go above your expectations with the quality of our products. With the head measuring device and perfectly sized products, you'll always feel stylish and ready for any occasion.

Quick Sizing Guide
If this cane offers free sizing (look for the checkbox under "Add to Cart"), it's optional: choose your height, or skip it and your cane ships at its standard length.
Not sure? Order the standard length. Most canes can be shortened at home once you know the right size.
Cut canes can be exchanged, with a $15 restocking fee.
Adjustable canes set to your height, and fixed-length canes (like sword canes) can't be cut. Their fit is listed under Product Details.
3 ways to find your cane length
1. Measure the cane user (most accurate) Tap to open
In walking shoes, stand upright with arms relaxed at your sides, and measure from the wrist crease to the floor. A second person reading the tape gives the best result.
If your measurement is exactly a whole or half inch (like 34" or 34½"), order that size. If it's in between (like 34¼"), round up to the next half inch (34½").
2. Measure a cane that already fits Tap to open
Measure from the lowest point on top of the handle to the bottom of the tip. Use your exact measurement if it's a whole or half inch. Otherwise, round up to the next half inch.
3. Estimate from your height Tap to open
Your cane length is about half your height. Example: 5'6" is 66 inches, so 33". It works for most people but isn't exact, so measure when your cane arrives.
| User's height | Cane length |
|---|---|
| 4'10" | 29" |
| 4'11" | 29.5" |
| 5'0" | 30" |

Shortening it yourself
Most canes can be shortened at home. Remove the tip, cut the extra length off the bottom, and put the tip back on. Canes can be shortened but not lengthened. Don't cut umbrella, sword, or seat canes, or any cane marked not to be sized.
