- Stand naturally upright as much as possible.
- Let your arms fall to your sides naturally with a normal relaxed bend at the elbow.
- Using a tape measure or yard stick, measure the distance from your wrist joint (bottom crease at the wrist) down to the floor. Round up to the nearest half inch.

I have a BSA hiking staff that was just rounded off wood at the bottom. I filed it down to fit one of these tips, drilled a pilot hole (the screw that comes with it is very long and I would worry about splitting) and added a big dollop of epoxy when I installed it and it's now absolutely rock solid and the epoxy keeps water from getting in under the rim of the tip. This was a great addition to my hiking staff.
